      - Tr explains to th students that sometimes oner sentence within the paragraph tells the reader exactly what the paragraph is about.
      - The sentence which is called topic sentence may appear at the beginning, middle or at the end of the paragraph
      - Supporting details are the explanations, reasons or examples that support the topic sentence of the paragraph
      - Students are given the exercise where they are required to write the maoin idea ofthe following passages.

- There are certain strategies that students can use in completing the cloze
- students will be able to select the most suitable options by looking for clues provided by the surroundings or sentences
- students are given a cloze passage exercise to complete by circling the correct options

      - Cohesiveness of text – Signal words, Heading and Subheading
General
Students will be able to understand that signal words give them the clues to the relationship between the parts of a sentence, between sentences and between paragraphs
Specific
Students will be able to construct sentences with the type of signal words that show contrast, cause and result, conclusion, etc, signal words such as however, although, but, etc and the function such as to introduce a contrasting idea, to indicate cause-effect, to conclude, etc.
AKTIVITI
      - Tr explains to the students that Signal words give them the clues to the relationship between the parts of a sentence, between sentences and between paragrphs
      - These words are connections or transitions from one idea to another that help make the text cohesive
- E.g. of signal words and their functions are:

-Teacher explains that when writing essays it is important that students begin with a good introduction which attracts the attention of the reader and serves as a guide to give them the direction as they develop their ideas.
-Students learn about the 6 strategies of beginning their essay
-Teacher guides the students as the students practice writing the introduction of the essay

Students will be able to summarise the main or general ideas of a text or a speech.

Students will be able to summarise and paraphrase between the notes and the talk.
AKTIVITI
      - As the students listen to the talk they will note that the speaker signals each point using discourse markers, e.g. firstly, secondly, finally, etc which makes it very easy for them to follow this talk and make short notes
      - Students listen carefully and note the main supporting details.
      - They then carefully compare the talk with the notes to see how the talk has been summarised and paraphrased into those short notes.
CATATAN / REFLEKSI
      - Most of the students were not able to predict what the speaker was going to say so the teacher had to guide them in writing the prediction.

     - Students revise back as a reinforcement about the importance of thesis statement
     - Thesis statement is a sentence that contains the controlling idea of an essay
     - It should not be too broad, or too vague
     - It is the focus of the essay and therefore should be specific
     - The thesis statement is usually found at the end of the introductory paragraph
CATATAN / REFLEKSI
     - Most of the students find this lesson quite a challenge to understand therefore they need further practice on the writing of thesis statement.

     - The phrase “how” indicates that students can expect to hear about ways or methods of improving their communications with their parents.
     - By making this prediction, the anticipate the information that they are going to hear and therefore, their ability to uderstand and remember the information increases.

     - Majority of the students were not able to predict what the speaker was going to say so the teacher had to guide them in writing the prediction.

      - After they had rewrite the statements to become effective thesis statement in exercise A students continue writing the thesis statement in exercise B in a different way.
      - The tr guides the students in constructing their thesis statements for the general subject given

Students will be able to expand the sentences by adding information to different parts of the sentences.
AKTIVITI






-          Tr explains that in writing all types of sentences can be used to make a piece writing more interesting by adding more information using question words such as who?what?why?when?how?, etc
-          This information can be placed in different parts of the sentences as given in the examples
-          Students are given 10 sentences to expand using the question words such as who?when?why? etc
-          Students practice expanding the sentences by adding information to different parts of each sentence.

Most of the students were quite able to expand the sentences using the questions given under the teacher’s guide.

      - Teacher explains that when students listen to any oral discourse they will find that it contains one or more main idea.
      - The main idea is the gist or the summary of the most important points in the discourse.
     - Very often, the main idea is supported by examples, descriptions, narratives, definitions, statistics, and quotations.
     - The supporting details help to expand upon or develop the main idea.
    - Students answer the 3 texts pertaining to the announcement, news item, etc in the worksheet given while listening to the CD.
CATATAN / REFLEKSI
     - Most of the students were unable to get most of the answers correct the second time the CD was played so the teacher had to do correction with them by playing the CD several times again.
