Expansion of sentences

General

Students will be able to expand a sentence by adding more informationusing questions such as who, what, where, when, why and how.

Specific

Students will be able expand the following sentences by adding information to different parts of each sentences.

AKTIVITI

Teacher explains about how all types of sentences can be used to make a piece of writing more interesting

Simple sentences can be expanded by adding more information by asking ourselves questions such as who, what, etc to gather more information on the subject we want to write about.

This information can be placed in different parts of the sentences as seen in the box below.

Students practice expanding sentences at the beginning using the question when and how.

CATATAN / REFLEKSI

Most of the students are quite slow in their work. Therefore, the teacher had to quide them how to construct the sentences correctly.

Students will be able to expand the following sentences by adding information to different parts of each sentence.

Specific

Students will be able to expand the sentences at the beginning, in the middle and at the end using the question words such as when, why, who, what, etc.

AKTIVITI

Teachers get the students to expand the following sentences by adding information to different parts of each sentence

Example, He reads the newspaper.(when?) He reads the newspaper everyday.

Teacher checks students' work for correction in expanding the sentences in the exercise given.

CATATAN / REFLEKSI

Most of the students were able to expand the sentences satisfactorily.

Teacher revises back the yesterday's lesson regarding subjects, verbs, complements or expansions and objects.

Teacher distributes a worksheet containing exercise B for the students to complete

Students complete the exercise with the suitable subjects, verbs, objects, complements or expansions.

CATATAN / REFLEKSI

Some of the students were able to get most of the answer correct though some did not do well in the exercise given. Teacher did the correction with the students.

The basic sentence

General

Students will be able to use different types of sentences in english to express their ideas

Specific

Students will be able to indicate whether the words in the passage given are subject, verbs, objects, complements or expansions in the spaces provided.

AKTIVITI

Teacher explains about the basic sentence which is made up of two main parts, a subject and a predicate

The subject is usually a noun, pronoun or noun phrase which identifies someone or something.

The predicate is usually comes after the subject that tells more about the subject

Teacher shows the table of subject and predicate and discuss the words with the students.

Teacher gets students to construct simple sentences which consist of the subject and the predicate.

Teacher explains about the steps to writing the essay such as using mind-mapping to get an overview of the contents.

Teacher shows example of drafting the composition.

After writing out the draft of their composition studdents should read it once again to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
