- To write a summary of paragraph using your own words

General

Students will be able to write a summary of the sentences using their own words

Specific

Students will be able to paraphrase the sentences given to them into a single sentence.

ACTIVITY

- Teacher explains to the students that when they are asked to write a summary of a paragraph or text, they are required to select the key points and restate them in their own words without altering the ideas and attitude of the writer

- We need to summarise in order to

i. Simplify the text so that it is easy to remember

ii. To answer exam questions

iii. To report on information

- Tr shows some sentences and get students to practice paraphrasing the sentences to develop their skill in paraphrasing.

REFLECTION

- the students need a lot of guidance from the teacher to guide them to paraphrase

AKTIVITI

- Tr explains to the students that they will make use of the skill that they have learnt to complete certain tasks

- Students practice listening to various kind of statements and then read the questions.

- While they listen to the statements they circle the option that conveys the same meaning.

CATATAN / REFLEKSI

- the students were quite weak in the listening exercise as they were not able to catch up with what the speaker's said in the recording text.

Students will be able to complete the passage by circling the correct options.

Students will be able to complete the 10 blanks with the suitable words.

AKTIVITI

- Tr explains that a cloze passage is a text in which word have been left out at regular intervals

- The aim of the exercise is to choose a word which best completes the text

- There are certain strategies that students can use in completing the cloze

- students will be able to select the most suitable options by looking for clues provided by the surroundings or sentences

- students are given a cloze passage exercise to complete by circling the correct options

CATATAN / REFLEKSI

- students were not doing well in the exercise given as their proficiency in the english language was very low.

Students will be able to summarise the main points that is restating the thesis statements or the two topics given.

AKTIVITI

  • Teacher explains that writing conclusions should be brief
  • Students should write a few well-worded sentences which are adequate for a short essay
  • Teacher shows some examples on the conclusions of some chosen essays for practice with the students
  • Students practice writing conslucions under the teacher's guide.

CATATAN / REFLEKSI

Two third of the students were able to write the conclusions satisfactorily well after a number of practice given to them.
