Teacher explains that when writing essays it is important that students begin with a good introduction which attracts the attention of the reader and serves as a guide to give them the direction as they develop their ideas.
Students learn about the 6 strategies of beginning their essay
Teacher guides the students as the students practice writing the introduction of the essay

Tr explains that very often when we repeat something that we have heard to someone else, we do not use the exact words the speaker used.
We use our own words to express our understanding of the speaker’s ideas. When we do this we are actually paraphrasing
In other words a paraphrase is a restatement of all the speaker’s ideas in our own words
Students practice listening to text 1 to the following statements and picking out the key words or ideas
Then, students paraphrase them. Teacher guides students in paraphrasing and piking out the key words.
